Kitchen Chemistry happenings

In the Unstoppables, we are doing a lot of practical, hands on science experiments!  We have been learning about kitchen chemistry, the scientific method and how to record experiments using a list of instructions.  

Room Two recently made sherbet, and found out about how acids, bases and the mouth's saliva create carbon dioxide bubbles.  From the look on the kids faces some of the taste testing had interesting results!

Room Three found out that when you mix milk and vinegar, the casein in the milk seperates.  This is a plastic substance which they have formed into cubes.  These cubes are drying on their window sill and will be used to make dice!  Room Four did the same experiment and are making bouncy balls.

Room Five inflated balloons today with carbon dioxide.  They added baking soda to a bottle of vinegar.  This created a chemical reaction which made carbon dioxide.  This bubbled up and inflated the balloon.

House Sports Jam Off!

On the last Thursday of Term Three, the four houses - Totara, Puriri, Matai and Kauri participated in a JAM off.  The children had been learning a Jump Jam dance once a week during lunch time sports.  


The victorious house was PURIRI.  A big thanks to Wendy McLeod for her great Jump Jam skills.

Uncle Crumble's Mad Machine

On Tuesday September 27 the Unstoppables and Future Force performed their production - UNCLE CRUMBLE's MAD MACHINE. 

We did a dress rehearsal performance in the morning for the Creative Critters, and in the evening we did a performance for friends, family and the community.  It was a huge success.

A huge thanks to all those who were involved in producing this awesome event!

Speech competition

In Week Six we held the Senior Syndicate Speech Competition.  It was a fantastic evening of speaking flair!  


Our Year Six winner was Sirdaris, second was Cameron, and third was Tamara.  Our Year Five winner was Briarna, second place was Krystal-Anne and third place was Stephen.  


Everybody spoke incredibly well!  


Congratulations to everyone who had the confidence to take part!

Unstoppables Upcoming Production!

Make sure you put Tuesday 27 September into your diary for the Unstoppables production!  Practices are coming along well and we are very excited to show all our hard work!

Ross Kinnard's visit

On Tuesday 7 September Ross Kinnard came to visit our school to talk about working as an illustrator.  In the first block he talked to the Unstoppables and Future Force, and in the second block he spoke with the Creative Critters.  In the afternoon he worked with some of our best artists in a special workshop.  

Ross can draw very fast and showed a lot of tricks to make faces show different emotions.  He made funny drawings of Mr Ballantyne (with a tutu) and Mrs Walker (as a chicken).

On Friday 2 September, three All Blacks: Dan Carter, Richard Kahui and Isaia Toeava came to Te Puke.  30 lucky students from Te Puke Primary met them down at Jubilee Park with other members of the public.

Daniel Carter reffed our rugby team in ripper rugby matches, and heaps of autographs were given out.

The most talked about event when the children returned, however, was Linda who managed a peck on Richard Kahui's cheek!

Miss Tane was very excited to meet the All Black's too!
